Steady Hands Forget To Remember
Propagandhi was boss. So good to be reminded why I fell in love with punk rock, and how great it can be when it's done well, or, in this case, to perfection. I was down in the moshpit with Ben (Million Dead) dancing like it was 1998. I feel stiff and sore like an old man today, but hey, that's suffering for your art (what?).
Tickets for the Cheltenham Town Hall show on 23rd July will go live onsale from this link tomorrow morning. They've been onsale through the 2000 Trees website for a week and a quarter of them have gone, so get shopping! I'm also going to be doing my smallest UK show this year the next day at the Queen's Hotel in Weymouth. Tickets for that are available from here.
In other news, I'm exhausted. The new songs are squatting in my mind like a particularly tenacious bunch of hippies, keeping me awake at all hours with suggestions, quibbles, alterations, and whether or not THAT stop should be there or not. Gah! All feeling good though, we've essentially finished learning the songs now and are moving into military drill territory, where we just play them over and over until we can't play em no more. My band fucking love me.

Propagandhi and co. were the tits.
I am so bruised and battered today as well but you can't go wrong with a sixty year old occult-prog-rocker in a cape.
:)
Ah Frank! Weymouth should be absolutely amazing, you were great last year in the Lazy Lizard and this year should be no exception!
Definitely put that stop in :)
Man alive. How old must Propagandhi be now? I sure hope they're not still spouting all that 'anti racist, anti homophobic, vegan anarchist crap they did between the ages of 19 and 27. If they haven't lost those views yet. Why i'd just have to write them off as mentally retarded.
Actually Brett, you've got a point, the last FT gig i went to was 'Kill the Black Gay Jews 09'...
I also suppose you have an ongoing dialogue with Propagandhi and know exactly how their life outlooks have changed?
Also, at which point did FT say any of his previous beliefs were crap? He said HIS view and outlook had changed, not that what he believed previously was wrong. He said anyone who went between the ages of 19 and 27 without changing their views of the world is arguably retarded, which to all intents and purposes is a fair shout - either that or you're incredibly enlightened as i sure as fuck didn't know what i was talking about when i was 19 (i still don't now but i'm getting more of an idea).
In his life I'm sure he's had to make compromises to get where he wanted to go. That's a choice people make and one that is THEIR choice, no one elses. Point me towards any lyrics or previous interviews where he said 'I am x and i'm never going to change'. What the fuck gives you the right to preach to people about what they can and can't do with their lives? It isn't hypocritical to change your views, if everyone was so blinkered to think their very first belief was correct and could never change then we'd live in a very fucked up world. It's hypocritical to change your view then insult others who proceed how you were but you know full well that wasn't what was meant.
As for the whole McDonalds bullshit, get over it, he could have lied but he's been honest to say he's been there a few times, so what? Do you insist on walking everywhere or travelling by electric means or do you travel in vehicles containing petrol which is sourced from the oil trade, possibly the most tyrannical industry out there? Do you not heat your house? Fucks sake, everyone supports shitty industries by proxy, giving a few quid to the evil empire of McDonalds is only a cardinal sin to those precious enough to consider themselves beyond reproach. If anyone here is a hypocrite i'd point at you.
Indeed Brett, it would seem that that Propagandhi lack the precious "life experience" that pacifies individuals such as F. Turner - who, falling to their knees to the demands of the system, become worthy "middle-ground libertarians" who accept that one can never "smash the system" and must simply learn obedience by "paying taxes, rent and so on".
Maybe Frank should have offered Propagandhi some advice on the wisdom he has ascertained pertaining to his discovery that it is easier to shut up than shout.
Or Maybe Frank is full of shit, just like the people like 'terlock' (above) sycophantically defending him. His political apathy and ignorance a personification of all the reactionary values and world-views that serve to demean and devalue the work of people engaged in forms of serious political and ideological struggle the world over.
How ironic then, that he was dancing away in the 'pit' on sunday evening to the same band who once sung:
"Dance and laugh and play
Ignore the message we convey / It seems we're only here to entertain
A rebellion cut-to-fit / Well I refuse to be the soundtrack to it / We entertain, we're still knee-deep in shit"
Again Bakunin, lazy.
I'm not sycophantically defending anyone, if you want to continue this argument then at least apply logic.
Do you not pay taxes or rent? So you're an unemployed squatter, living off benefits or still living with your parents? Sadly I have a family to support so cannot refuse such basic necessities.
You have no idea of my political ideals and how either mine or anyone elses views goes to devalue or demean others in this world going through an ideological struggle is beyond me. You have no idea what I do politically and the beliefs I hold close. I assure you they are a long, long way away from Frank's.
Tell us a bit about yourself Bakunin. Tell us why you are worthy of moral high ground. I'd be interested to know how far you practice what you preach.
I'm not going to throw insults at you, but at least reason with me. You cannot preach idealism through anger. If you want me to see or at least understand your view, give us an insight.
Wouldn't a punch in the mouth be more to the point?
Will you guys take your post-post-modern neo-relativist anti-deconstructionalism somewhere with a wider screen and leave the rest of us in peace? It's not as if you even use your real names, ffs.
I've no objection to people using pseudonyms per se but agreed, as i mention above, they are sifting through the public details of the last 10 years of Frank's life whilst providing us with no insight to theirs. Unless I can see the erstwhile good they are doing to justify them throwing about accusations of political apathy on the rest our parts then the whole thing is a waste of time.
Still, passes the day... Oh, and you rickrolled me you cunt, touche ;-)
I fail to see why details of my life are of any real relevance to the context of this moronic discussion, however I shall tell you this: I work in an abattoir by day, McDonalds by night and I help produce weaponry at EDO during the weekends just for fun and to pass the time.
You're right. This is moronic. All you're good for is idle rants and shit missives.
You can only throw forward an argument of ideology because it's all theoretical, when dealing with facts / the real world you've got nothing because you'll be seen to be a hypocrite, hence your weak as fuck response. Least you've shown us all that, so now you can put your stones away and get on with repairing that shattered little glass house of yours.
I look forward to hearing from you Brett / Lenny Kravitz with something slightly more tangible, unless you're all, as i suspect, one person sock-puppeting his way round the net trying to rage against the corporate machine. Dude.
Oh, and the point is not about "refusing to pay tax or rent"... the point is that it is idiotic to claim that the existance of taxes and rent (and more so the acceptance of this) somehow voids any possibility of realistically striving for a society not based upon principles of greed and private property ownership.
and p.s to "here4themusic" if you think any of this constitutes anything near the ballpark of post-modern; i suggest you get down to your local library and reasses those jean baudrillard texts.
I like Propagandhi's drums.
Bukunin, thank you. I was trying to work you out and now you've solved it, you're a sixth former!
A life without property ownership? That would be perfect, we could be just like... Errr... The developing world? But but but, they be greedy cunts. Oh... You're right.... Those dicks have human nature and are greedy... So what to do?turns out bukake, much like me you are anti human but you disguise it behind humiliating justification of anarchy and self righteousness!
Keep spouting your shit by all means, big boy, safe to say anyone with a basic grasp on the real world is having a great giggle at your cost
BakeCake, dude, you need to lighten up, grow up and shut up.
I'm sorry but:
"realistically striving for a society not based upon principles of greed and private property ownership."
You are a total fucking idiot. As stated above, there is very little private property ownership in developing countries which in turn are the most corrupt countries on earth. Greed is inherent in the human psyche, you can argue whatever philosophical stance you want but until you have a basic grasp of sociology and psychology, not quite so intellectualist but key when you are discussing idealism in practice, you should pipe down. The use of the word 'realistically' really does sum you up. It is not realistic, it's as far fucking fetched as it comes.
You can cling to your empty ideals whilst everyone else gets on with their life, you can harbour resentment for every person that comes to terms with the FACT the world is always going to have it's share of cunts, no matter how hard anyone tries. You'll have a pretty fucking miserable existence though.
Something else for you to dwell on... If you're truly anarchonistic you wouldn't go around giving a fuck what other people thought and trying to impose your views as right and righteous. You are essentially espousing anarchy whilst preaching fascism.
ha ha ha. so funny. i take it you are both being sarcastic. i love comedy. all you have achieved is entertaining me for the first ten minutes of work. oh, and i skim read most of it. too many long words. personally i am looking forward to weymouth, or is this a different discussion we are having? regards y'all!!
Are you really coming to Helsinki to the "Pitkä kuuma kesä" event this summer? It is not on your gigs page yet but your picture and all is on the Finnish website. Some other good bands there as well but you would be the only reason for me to go there. Well, I hope this is true, can't wait!
So i'm a "sixth former" but it's you who dismisses me with some anecdotal bullshit about some condescending notion of the economics of a "developing world". Where is this developing world? Is it a continent? A region? A country? Another planet?
See, what you just spouted there was a "sixth form" understanding of say, what may loosley be termed 'the global south', and what you're talking about as some kind of 'natural' justification for capitalism (which is what i assume you are arguing, laughably and naively) without actually understanding that the greed to which you refer is actually based largley upon principles of feudalism (which is in itself a system of economic organisation i.e a social construct).
And terlock, I was never denying the existance of greed as a feature of human (animal) behaviour - the point I intended to make (which you seem to have missed) was that a society organised wholly around principles of greed and (monopolistic) private property ownership is endemically destructive and at its heart unequal.
I would suggest you read about the Mayans, or the people of Chiapas... and i certainly recommend that you read a book called 'the people's history of the world'. Or do you find it too difficult reading things that call in to question your own conditioned assumptions about the world?
p.s. Terlock, thanks for that deep and meaningful insight - "the world is always going to have it's share of cunts"... what a real gem. Must have taken a while to come up with that nugget of gold, eh?
Couldn't you settle this with fisticuffs before an FT show. Seriously you could be the support act. We could have a ring and everything. I'd pay a lot of money to see that shit.
Bakunin, this is Frank's blog and this discussion has turned to fuck all to do with him - happy to continue this away from here, why not we both sign up on the forum and continue there?
And i'm happy to read books covering a range of views, but my opinions will never come from books, they will come from spending time with people in prisons, from working with kids through charities and from my life experience not anybody elses. You can read as many texts as you like, there is no substitute for being there and doing it.
Bakunin, I'm angry at my parents too. So I go up to my bedroom and listen to music by Limp Bizkit. They are the only ones who understand me, with their emotional rap lyrics and hard rock sounds. They can help you too.
Oh. Dear.
Older brother, Why are you angry are your parents? I'm thankful for mine.
Terlock, no; i won't be registering for any forums or continuing this idiotic debate. It was entertaining for a while but the blanket idiocy gets boring after a while.
Oh, and thanks for the aphorism "you can read as many texts as you like, there is no substitute for being there and doing it." Here's another.. those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it.
I'm out.
Fair play, knew you would bottle it as that's generally the way of the opinion elitist - start to lose an argument and run away, bury your head and tell yourself you're right.
Just in response to your closer. Re-read what I put: "but my opinions will never come from books". I will and have read plenty of texts, I have a massive respect for history, as i do psychology, philosophy and economics; I just don't let them dictate my view. Shame you're unable to say the same, but it's not a problem - keep your head in the sand and hopefully you'll run out of oxygen
