Attacking The Airwaves, With Your Help

I've just returned from a 3 day press trip to Germany, Berlin and Cologne to be precise. How strange life is. Having spent such a long time building things up the hard way in the UK, it seems, bizarrely, that there's almost something of a hype going on in Deutschland. 20 interviews in 2 days got a little tiring, but it was a good experience. I'm back there for the night in September (the 4th) for a free show at the Ramones Museum in Berlin. Cool.

Tomorrow is, potentially, radio D-Day in the UK. With the promotion for the last record, we came on so very far, moving from occasional plays on specialist shows to day-time playlist. A major part of how we achieved this was thanks to people power - i.e. contributions from people like you, yes you, right there, in the shirt. I remain hugely grateful for that contribution. And now it looks like we might need your help again.

Tomorrow, Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1 will be giving "The Road" its first day-time play on her show, which runs from 10am-1pm. So, tune in and have a listen, but more importantly, let her know you loved it. This can be done through the medium of text message, or by emailing the show. Then, on XFM, the single will be played on the drive time show from 3pm-7pm - same deal really, Dave Berry is on 83936 or dave@xfm.co.uk. Finally, the single can be voted for on the BBC 6Music Rebel Playlist at the moment, right here. If it gets enough votes it hits the daytime playlist there too.

Every little helps the cause with this kind of thing, so thanks in advance for your help.

The Final Offspring Installment

So in the whole life-vs-offspring-blog battle I'm only actually about a week behind the times, which is better than it feels like, if you see what I mean. The final enthralling chapter of me and John's adventures in Yanksville can be found over at the NME site now. Have fun reading, it's been fun writing.

Two Points Of Interest

I'm back in Oxford, rehearsing with the boys. I've missed em, truth be told, and it's always a great feeling to get back in the saddle again. We're not a bad little outfit, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to shows in Cheltenham, Weymouth and Camp Bestival this weekend. Oh, and somewhere in the Oxfordshire countryside on Sunday too. Hm. Anyways. Some stuff.

First up, the good people at Rock Sound Magazine are setting up an interview for me, based on questions people send in. So if there's something you've always wanted to know, now's the time. Something like this:
frank turner - rock sound

Secondly, tomorrow night the lovely Mr Steve Lamacq will not only be playing The Road on his show on BBC 6Music tomorrow night after 6pm, he'll be reviewing it on the Round Table thing as well. Feel more than free to tune in, log on and contribute some thoughts.

Finally, Love Ire & Song is now officially out and available in Europe and the USA through my new favourite people, Epitaph Records. It's been a long time coming, but we've finally got this nailed. I'm very happy about it all. There's a ton more stuff going on and coming up at the moment, so this blog is going to get pretty busy in the near future. Exciting times.

Offspring V: Freddie vs Jason

So I'm back from the USA and happy to be in England again, huzzah. I had a lot of fun, thanks to everyone involved. I know it's getting a little behind the times now, but the NME has part 5 of the tour diary up now, and I should have the 6th and final part ready in the next few days. Here's the video too.

Offspring IV: The Rise Of The Machines

Yet more nonsense and tomfoolery from this side of the pond has found its way onto the NME blogs. Do go and read them, and watch the video (below).

Also, "The Road" has debuted on Radio 1 and can now be found on my myspace. Hurrah!

Offspring Update / Radio FT

Bit of a delay, due to me being slow and suchlike, but part 3 of the Offspring tour diary can now be found here, and of course, here's the video:

Also, last night my old friend Mike Davies played the new single, "The Road", on his show on BBC Radio 1. Hooray! Tonight between 7 and 9, Zane Lowe will be playing it again as "hottest record in the world". Double hooray! If you have the time and inclination to text or email in and let them (Mike, Zane, or any other Radio 1 DJs) know your appreciation, that'd be great. Thanks everyone.

The Old World

Breaking the Offspring narrative here for a moment (fun though that is - another update to follow shortly), I'm making myself feel slightly dizzy at the moment by thinking about upcoming bits and bobs on the other side of the Atlantic. First of all, all the dates are now confirmed and announced for my European November Tour. This is going to be my first full European tour with a band, and I'm hella excited. The dates:

  • 28th November @ The Melkweg, Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • 30th November @ AB Club, Brussels, Belgium
  • 1st December @ Bei Chez Heinz, Hannover, Germany
  • 2nd December @ Luxor, Koln, Germany
  • 4th December @ Parken, Gothenburg, Sweden
  • 5th December @ Gota Kallare, Stockholm, Sweden
  • 7th December @ Tavastia, Helsinki, Finland
  • 9th December @ Loppen, Copenhagen, Denmark
  • 10th December @ Molotow, Hamburg, Germany
  • 11th December @ Magnet, Berlin, Germany
  • 12th December @ 59 to 1, Munich, Germany
  • 13th December @ Arena, Vienna, Austria
  • 14th December @ PPC, Graz, Austria
  • 16th December @ Hafenkneipe, Zurich, Switzerland
  • 17th December @ Bleu Lezard, Geneva, Switzerland

Tickets are onsale now. Yeah!

Also, as the storm clouds that are the new album continue to gather, I'm pleased to say I have some UK radio-related news. We've been told that the good Mr Zane Lowe will be broadcasting an exclusive first play of the new single, "The Road", on Monday July 13th on his BBC Radio 1 evening show (7-9pm). Please do listen in, and (if you like it, which I sincerely hope you do), let the good people at the BBC know all about it through the medium of text messaging / email. In the same week, the good Mr Mike Davies will also be playing some new stuff on his show too. Ears to the, er, radio, people!

Offspring Tour Diary Part 1

So the good folks over at the NME.com blog are hosting my tour diary from this tour. Part #1 is now up and can be found here. There's a video diary with each installment too:
